Todd L. Dodson joined Beacon Wealth Consultants in 2017 as Vice President of Operations. Todd is a graduate of Appalachian State University, where he played football and earned his undergraduate degree in Computer Science. Upon graduation, Todd was commissioned into the US Army Corps of Engineers. Todd then completed the grueling Special Forces Qualification Course and was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). He served with the unit for almost six years, deployed to the Middle East numerous times, working with allied militaries in all aspects of military training and operations. Todd later earned a Master’s degree in Administration from Central Michigan University and a Master’s in National Strategic Studies from the National Defense University and attended the US Army’s War College.
Following his time with the 5th Special Forces, Todd served in several positions planning and conducting training operations across the United States. Todd earned a reputation as a Master Trainer and Operations Officer throughout the Special Ops community. One of Todd’s final assignments was to Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as the Chief of Staff for Combined/Joint Special Operations Task Force – Arabian Peninsula. He oversaw the conduct and support of over two thousand combat operations throughout the Iraqi theater, involving forces from the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines as well as the Iraqi military and Iraqi police forces.
Following his time in Iraq, Todd was assigned to the Washington, DC area, where he was a senior Department of Defense representative to the FBI. His duties included synchronizing and coordinating U.S. government counter-terrorism operations around the world. It was during this final assignment that Todd worked with many U.S. government agencies.
In 2010, Todd retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of Colonel and moved back to his native Botetourt County, where he serves as the Vice-chairman of the Board of Supervisors. Additionally, he also serves as an officer on the board of the Southwest Virginia Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. In his 25-year military career, Todd has traveled the world, worked with many of the United States’ closest allies, and demonstrated diplomacy and candor in all aspects of his interactions.
Todd’s military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with clusters, the Southwest Asia Ribbon with Battle Star, the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, parachutists badge, Special Forces tab, Combat Diver Qualification Course badge, and Jordanian and Bahrainian Airborne wings, and ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate. Todd is also an Eagle Scout.
Todd is married to the former Lisa Hammer and they have three daughters. Their oldest attends Virginia Tech, their second daughter attends James Madison University and the youngest daughter is in high school.
